Bangkok Day 2

Hello everybody,

I finally slept for 8 hours last night yeee haw! My bag also finally arrived at 12:15 a.m . When it got here the concierge called up to my room. Super fun to be woken up to a blaring phone ring.

Reunited with the love of my life

Today I decided to take on public transportation. Now I know for some of you that doesn’t sound daunting, but for a Montana girl who has never lived in a city it’s a pretty big deal. However, I succeeded!!!! The sky train in Bangkok is extremely nice and has icy cold AC, which is a much needed reprieve from the EXTREME humidity (I’m not being dramatic… see later picture).

It’s also such a bonus to skip all the city traffic!

My first event of the day was finding some long pants that would be appropriate to wear in temples and at the Grande Palace. I somehow ended up at the biggest shopping complex I have every been in. It has literally any store you can think of, including all the designer brands. For me, flying to Asia by myself and getting around the city is manageable, but put me in a massive shopping mall for 20 minutes and I will go downhill quickly (just ask my mom).

The second half of my day consisted of exploring the grounds of the Grande Palace. To get there, I continued on the train and them took the Chao Phraya hop on hop off boat. They really do take hop on hop off literally, waiting at the piers for about 15-30 seconds.

View from the boat. It is quite simply stunning.

The Grande Palace is unlike like anything I’ve seen before. I’m just gonna put some pictures below to show what I mean.

Let me tell you all. I am not used to humidity in any shape or form. Montana is dry, Colorado is dry, even the East Coast does not compare. I have never sweat so much in my life OMG!!

Here’s a really cute picture of me trying not to pass out!! Don’t worry, I ‘m chugging water. I also had to wear pants and a long sleeve blouse out of respect, so it added an extra layer of death.

Tomorrow I leave for Chiang Mai where I will stay in my first hostel. I’m excited but also a little nervous. My introverted self has loved venturing out into the city and then coming back to hangout by myself, in my own space. I guess I’m going to have to learn how to interact with people again!

I have truly enjoyed my time so far. The people are kind and smiley, the city has endless places to explore, and I conquered public transportation and humidity (although the last is debatable).

Your sweaty girly,

Mahala
