The Last of Thailand

Hello everyone,

I realize that I haven’t done an update in a while. In all reality, I don’t have any insane updates. The last few days have been pretty chill. My sleep schedule is all out of wack… people in the hostels like to stay up late and sleep in late. People also party HARD, which is definitely way out of what my normal lifestyle looks like.

I returned to Chiang Mai a day earlier than I had planned. Pai was excellent, but the hostel I stayed in was a little grimy and had too many party vibes for my taste. ALSO, I know I’m in Thailand, but there was a HUGE ASS cockroach in my shower which is so anti-Mahala it’s not even funny. I also did not go tubing when I realized everyone just gets drunk all day. I’m headed to Laos tomorrow, which has way more chill vibes. I have decided to research my accommodations more from now on to find the environment that suits me best.

I do have to admit, the view from my hostel in Pai was FANTASTIC.

I will use the rest of this post to update you on some of the tiny things I have been up to in Thailand. One of my favorite things has been the abundance of fruit shakes. They are blended with fruit and ice. I have been stuck on ordering passion fruit because they are SO DAMN GOOD. Below is a picture of one of the many stands you can find walking around the streets.

Yummy in my tummy

The lowest price I bought one for is 20 bahts. The conversion rate is about 1 USD to 36 bahts, so you can do the math on that one.

I have also been ordering so many iced cappuccinos. They are usually just over $1.

Look at this HUNK of a coffee. Love of my life.

I will miss ordering Khao Soi (described in the last post). I know you can probably get it in most other places, but it is the specialty of the north, so it won’t be the same. Here is a picture.

7-11s are big in Thailand. When I do a 360 in the square near my hostel in Chiang Mai, I see three separate ones. They are the big go-to store for a quick bite. Below is a picture. From this section, you can get a “sushi triangle,” pork bao bun, or “Toastie,” which is a cheese sandwich. When you check out, they will heat anything for you. So many people are into the Toasties, but they make me gag. The cheese is the fakest thing I have ever seen/tasted.

See rack of Toasties— top right. There are even bagged hamburgers eeeeekkkk.

Today, I walked around and got my nails painted. It’s so cheap, and they did such a fantastic job. There was also a very silly, cute little dog in the shop.

I have met an abunndance of amazing people so far. Most people I’ve been spending time with are from the UK, Australia, New Zealand, or the Netherlands. There are quite a few Germans, some French, and some Swiss as well. I haven’t hung out with anyone from the US yet, which is cool.

I don’t have a great picture of all of us, but I travled to Pai at the same time as Tom, Danyon, and Tobias and we all got surprising close. I will put the only picture of us which is from the party at the hostel called “Gender Bender. Everyone dresses up as the opposite gender for fun!!!!! I look terrible but who cares.

Danyon from New Zealand (left), me as a guy (I think I pulled it off well), Tom from the U.K (to my right), and Tobais from the Netherlands (far right).

I’ll put a super attractive picture of me below. LOL. For any of you who don’t know, I am a mega girly girl so this was a stretch for me.

The two girls above are from the Netherlands.

I am going to miss Chiang Mai. Walking around, like the picture below, you find the cutest little things.

Cute cute cute

I am staying in a hotel by the airport tonight, which is SO exciting. I have my own space for one night. I plan on completely repacking my bag and having a calm rest of my time here.

See you in Laos,
Mahala
