Prauge Days 3 + 4

Hello everyone,

Here’s a little recap of the last two days. Hint: It involves a lot of walking + a little biking all over the city. Tbh the days are somewhat blending in my brain and I had only a touch of sleep last night so proceed with caution.

Day 3

We all slept in (much needed) and had a laid- back morning. The open window in the apartment filters in the bustling noise of the city street below which, for me, invokes a content sense of calm… especially when one is sipping a fresh cappuccino and working through the NYT games of the day.

Me people watching from said window last night. Favorite hobby.

Once we got going we strolled over to the Lennon Wall. Mom read about it in a book and wanted to go, but once there, aside from knowing who John Lennon is, obviously, there was no further info on its exact significance. Lucky for you all I just looked it up. According to my research, it is a historic legal graffiti wall which was erected after the 1980 assassination of Lennon. The mural includes a painting of John Lennon by an anonymous artist and has been continually expanded upon – becoming a place of free expression during the communist Czechoslovakian period.

Here ye go. Not sure I even saw Lennon on the wall.

We then continued on our merry way, stopped for coffee, stopped for pastries, consumed said pastries in a park, and walked along the Vltava River. Super tough life.

Coni on the river trail

For the way home, we decided to rent E-bikes.

Brief interlude… for those of you that don’t know me I’m not super into biking. I mean I can get behind it but I’m not used to a grand city maneuver bike adventure. On top of that, Prague is not what I would call the friendliest bike city. There are minimal bike lanes and most of the side streets are cobblestone. Your whole body is JOSTLED!!!!!!!!

Cobblestone example

So yeah, it was fun but I was definitely a little out of control and not willing to take as many risks as Gabe and Stefan. Luckily Mom stuck behind me … but my city biking skills could be improved upon.

Another fun pic of Stefan

After an apartment refresh Gabe, Coni, and I met Mom and Stefan at a local park for a quick drank and a free concert by the Prague Conservatory School. I had a ball, —- fabulous musicians, great singers, a chill crowd. What more can you ask for?

The evening went a few ways. Gabe and Coni departed to play some pick-up basketball — where they won most of their games!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mom, Stef, and I stopped for dinner trekked up (and up and up) to the famous Prague Castle, which is one of the largest castle complexes in the world. It was founded in the 9th century so we were talking the olden olden times. Currently, the Czech pres lives there.

And that about sums it up for the day. A lot of walking, a lot of eating, and beautiful sights in every direction.

Day 4

Today consisted of some of the same. I don’t really want to bore you all so I’ll make this one quick and just insert some pics.

Gabe showed us around his side of town (where he lives and attends university) which involved a tram and a bus ride from Prague 1, where we are staying, to Prague 6.

There, I participated in some nature time which was refreshing. The outing ended in a rejuvenating natural spring swimming pool and a much-needed ice cream cone. For some reason I ordered the Unicorn flavor but it didn’t end up tasting too bad.

Gabe treated us to a home-cooked meal at his apartment and then we trekked back across the city to where I now sit blogging away, listening to bagpipes play from the open window.

How we typically start and end the day

Anyway, I’m a tired bean! Hopefully this blog made at least a little sense to some of you. Thanks to all who made it this far.

As always,

Mahala
